Master Class Hardanger International 2016

Leif Rygg

In recent years there has been an increasing interest for the Hardanger fiddle outside of Norway. Last autumn we therefore launched a Master Class International on the Hardanger fiddle, led by Hardanger and Voss museum and Ole Bull Academy. This was a great success and we invite you to apply for a whole week of Norwegian folkmusic and playing the hardanger fiddle in 2016.

At the Master Class Hardanger International (MCH International) participants follow classes led by the prize winning fiddlers Leif Rygg and Frank Rolland. In addition - an introduction to Norwegian folk music at the Ole Bull Academy and at Hardanger Folk Museum. MCH International is open to all over eighteen, suits both students and trained musicians. MCH International 2016 will be held from September19th to 25th in Norway and the regions Hardanger and Voss.

In 2015 we had fiddle players from England, Japan and the USA. Here is some of the feedback from the students:

"I left Granvin with one of the most fulfilling musical experiences I've ever had"

"For me, the Master Class Hardanger International (MCHI) was a marvellous experience which I shall remember all my life. I was very excited to be given a place and had high expectations which were amply fulfillled. The teaching was excellent, the tutors patient and attentive to everyone's needs, the tunes really great, the company superb and very friendly. The mix of activities seemed ideal - lots of teaching, but also the fascinating talks, visits, concert and impromptu playing. But what I also really appreciated was the marvellous welcome we got from everyone, whether directly involved in the course or not."

"I had an amazing time at the masterclass and missed it dearly when I got home. My least favorite part was that it had to end!"
